The Zeiss Stemi 508 stereo microscope: microscope adapters for digital cameras (DLSR and system cameras)

The highest levels of digital photographic documentation can be achieved using state-of-the-art camera technology, which makes even the smallest details visible! Our LM digital adapters allow you to attach all current DSLR and system cameras to the Zeiss Stemi 508 quickly and easily – a combination that delivers maximum image quality.

The Zeiss Stemi 508 is a Greenough-type stereo microscope that supports transmitted and incident light techniques (bright field, dark field, polarisation, oblique illumination). Zeiss designed the microscope for heavy workloads, and it is suitable for almost any observation task – from developmental biology to art restoration. The instrument’s 35° viewing angle offers optimum ergonomic support, and its two beam paths enable three-dimensional observation through the eyepieces. The maximum field number is 23, and the magnification range varies from 0.63x to 5x in 10 stages. The 8:1 zoom capability facilitates the examination of details at up to 50x magnification.

Customers can choose between three versions of this microscope:

Our LM digital adapters with planachromatic optics will allow almost any type camera to be attached to either version (selection between the three microscopes is generally a matter of budget). Modern DSLR and system cameras provide a wide range of functions, e.g. they are controlable from PC/mac. Guideline for choosing a digital camera for microscopy.

The apochromatic zoom optics in the Stemi 508 enable visualisation of objects in fields of view up to 122 mm. A range of apochromatic front optics and eyepieces are available, making it possible to reach any magnification between 2x and 250x.

Illumination is provided by LED sources (spot, double-spot gooseneck or segmentable ring light illuminators), and a variety of cold light sources are also available. Other options include transmitted light units and polarisation equipment for reflected and transmitted light.

The Stemi 508 can be rounded out by selecting from a comprehensive range of stands and other accessories.

Fitting the microscope to digital single-lens reflex (DSLR), mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras (MILC ), digital single-lens mirrorless (DSLM) or C-mount cameras is easy with our LM digital SLR adapters, which feature a plan achromatic optical system. Our products make it possible to capture top-quality microscope images. To help you select the adapter that is right for your camera, we have set up an online configurator on our website. You can also email us – ideally with attached photographs of your microscope.

Modern DSLR and single-lens mirrorless (DSLM) offer the latest technology and are generally very well suited for microscopy applications. Most of them can be controlled remotely via PC/Mac. Because of their high sales volumes, they offer an excellent price/performance ratio compared to special-purpose microscope cameras.

Features of top DSLR and single-lens mirrorless cameras (DSLM):
- Large, powerful full-frame sensors (36 x 24 mm)
- Sensor resolution of 61 megapixels or 240 megapixels with Pixel Shift technology
- High light sensitivity (ISO 400,000+)
- Extensive dynamic range (up to 15 aperture stops/f-stops)
- Short exposure times (1/8000 second) up to 1/32,000 seconds using the digital shutter
- 4K Ultra HD  or 8K Ultra HD video function
- Live video capture on external monitors in ultra HD quality

In most cases, these cameras are significantly more powerful than microscope cameras with smaller sensors (1/2" or 2/3"). On our website you will find our current camera recommendations and a camera ranking which is specifically tailored to microscopy applications.
